DALLAS (SMU) -- The Columbus Crew selected SMU soccer standout Diego Walsh with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2002 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, which was held today in Kansas City.

The Miami, Fla., native will join former Pony teammate and 2002 Hermann Trophy Winner Luchi Gonzalez with the Crew. Gonzalez was the No. 6 overall selection last season by the San Jose Earthquakes, but moved to the Crew during the offseason.

Walsh was a two-time All-American at SMU, the 2000 & 2002 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and was a finalist for the 2002 Hermann Trophy.
