DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's soccer team extended its winning streak to five games with a 1-0 victory over visiting UCF Friday evening at Westcott Field on the campus of SMU. SMU improves to 7-4-2 (5-0 C-USA) while UCF falls to 6-4-1 (1-2-1 C-USA).
Each team had ample scoring opportunities throughout the game, but it was SMU who found the back of the net. Freshman Paulo da Silva tallied his second goal of the season at the 34:43 mark with a short tap-in in front of the net with the assists credited to Duke Hashimoto and Scott Corbin.
SMU hung on to the slim lead and tried to get an insurance goal with a couple of shots hitting crossbars. The Golden Knights did all they could to score on the Mustangs, but were unsuccessful in their attempts.
The Mustangs close out the home portion of the regular season Sunday afternoon and take on FIU (6-3-2, 2-0-2 C-USA) at Westcott Field. Tulsa and FIU played to a 1-1 tie Friday evening in Tulsa. A brief Senior Salute will be held prior to Sunday's 1:00 p.m. kick-off.
