Volleyball Hosts UAB and Memphis This Weekend

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU volleyball team returns to the court this weekend as it hosts UAB and Memphis in Conference USA action at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs (8-11, 4-3 C-USA) look to continue their home court success after wins against Tulane and UTEP at home last weekend. With the victories, SMU improved to 7-1 in contests at Moody Coliseum this season.
SMU will look to freshman Natalie Peters to continue her strong play up front and help the Mustangs take out the Blazers and the Tigers. Peters ranks first in the league in blocks, putting up 25 solos and 74 assists for a total of 99 and she is averaging 1.86 blocks per game in conference play. She has also posted 211 kills and five aces and rates second on the team in points behind Rachel Giubilato with 278.0. Giubilato has also been strong for SMU, pounding 273 kills while averaging 3.85 per game. She is first on the team in aces with 32 and points with 324.0, while notching 34 total blocks including four solo and 30 assists.
SMU is also putting up some impressive team numbers. The Mustangs' 19.55 digs per game rank second in the NCAA and lead C-USA, while their 2.64 blocks per game in conference play are also tops in the league. Opponents are only hitting .202 in conference contests against the Ponies, which ranks third-best in the conference.
Volleyball action against UAB on Friday begins at 7 p.m., while the match with Memphis is slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday. The matches will have live stats available via Gametracker and live video through Mustang All-Access on SMUMustangs.com. Sunday's match is also Autograph Day/Volleyball Club Day. Kids who wear their volleyball club jersey will receive free admission and the team will sign autographs following the match.
