Pinehurst, N.C. (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team extended its lead during the second round of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,035-yard Centennial Pinehurst Course No. 8. SMU stands at 592 for two rounds, leading fellow Conference USA member UAB (596) by four strokes entering Tuesday's final round.
Colt Knost, last season's Pinehurst medalist, took over first place individually with an even-par 72 on Monday. He leads UNCG's Will Shambley by one stroke, 143 to 144. Brandon DeStefano also had a great second 18, as the 2006 John Burns Intercollegiate medalist shot 1-over 73 and moved up to third place at 145. Will Dodson (T34-152) and Scott Sikes (T53-155) both shot 78 on Monday, while Wes Homan's 83 left him back in 69th at 157.
Tuesday's final round will commence with shotgun tee times starting at 8:30 a.m.
