Windermere, Fla. (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team stands in eighth place following the first round of the 18-team Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational. SMU shot a 2-over 290 and trails the leaders by six shots. Tournament host UCF, Oklahoma State and Southern Cal share the lead after Sunday's first round, as the Knights, fifth-ranked Cowboys and ninth-ranked Trojans each shot respective scores of 284 at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
Reigning C-USA Golfer of the Week Ben Tewes is 11th individually after carding a 2-under 70, while an even-par 72 has James Minahan tied for 23rd. Kelly Kraft and Draegen Majors both shot 74 to tie for 47th, while Arwed Fischer is 86th at 81. There was a three-way tie to top the individual leaderboard after UCF junior Greg Forest, Southern Cal sophomore Jamie Lovemark and East Tennessee State freshman Rhys Enoch each carded a 68 on the par-72, 7,493-yard layout.
Round two of the Invitational is set for Monday with final-round action scheduled for Tuesday.
