GLENCOE, Ill. (SMU) - SMU sophomore Ben Tewes and freshman Kelly Kraft each earned top-15 finishes with strong final rounds at the Windon Memorial Golf Classic held at the par 71 Lake Shore Country Club on Monday, Oct. 8. Tewes' 54-hole total of 1-under 212 earned him a tie for 10th, while Kraft's 1-over 214 was good for 14th.
As a team, SMU carded a 287, the third-lowest team total of the day, to jump up to a fifth-place tie at 868 after entering the day in eighth place. The 13-team field included four squads which finished the spring 2007 season ranked in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. In addition to SMU, participating teams in this year's Windon Memorial included DePaul, Indiana, Kansas, Kent State, Marquette, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue. Northwestern won the team event at 848, while Marquette's Mike Van Sickle and Minnesota's Clayton Rask tied for individual honors at 7-under 206.
The three other Mustangs competing also had nice final-day showings, as Arwed Fischer and James Minahan both shot 72s and Draegen Majors shot 75. Fischer finished tied for 38th at 221, while Minahan and Majors tied for 51st at 225.
