MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (SMU) - The SMU men's tennis team dropped a, 5-2, decision to No. 24 Minnesota this afternoon. The Mustangs are 4-3 on the season as they return home to face nationally ranked Baylor on Wed., Feb. 28 at 2:00 p.m.
Minnesota took the doubles point with wins at all three spots. David Kuczer and Adolfo Solares paired at No. 1 against Sion Wilkins and D.J. Geatz but were not able to get past the duo as they fell, 8-6. Federico Murgier and Chris Hooshyar played at No. 2 doubles against Mikey Kantar and Raoul Schwark but fell in the tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-5). At No. 3, Alex Skrypko and Robin Fahgen played against Chi-Lang Pham and Andres Osorio but could not topple the duo as they fell, 8-6.
In singles action, Skrypko defeated Osorio in a tiebreaker, 6-3, 5-7, 11-9, at No. 1 and Fahgen took the 7-5, 5-7, 11-9, win over Kantar at No. 4. Kuczer fell to Schwark at No. 2 singles in three close sets, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5. Murgier could not overturn Geatz at No. 3, 6-2, 6-4, and Hooshyar loss the, 6-4, 7-5, decision to Edlefsen at No. 5. Solares fell to Liponski at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
The Mustangs will return to action to face Baylor at 2:00 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 28 at the Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas.
