PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (SMU) - The SMU men's tennis team was unable to overturn No. 35 Cal today as they fell, 4-2. The Mustangs took the doubles point as Robin Fahgen notched a win at No. 5 singles. Cal has been making waves lately as they are currently on a five match win streak including a win over Stanford before this weekend.
With wins at the top two doubles, the Mustangs took the doubles point to take the early lead. Federico Murgier and Alex Skrypko outlasted Tyler Browne and John Pettit, 8-6, at the No.1 spot while Oivind Alver and Fahgen notched a 8-3 win over Pierre Mouillon and Daniel Sebescen at the No. 2 slot. David Kuczer and Adolfo Solares were not able to top Eoin Heavey and Geoff Chizever at the No. 3 spot as they fell 8-3.
Fahgen posted the lone singles win with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Stewart at the No. 5 spot. At No. 1 singles, Skrypko was unable to top No. 23 Mouillon as he fell, 6-4, 6-3 and after taking the second set and forcing a third set, Kuczer was unable to overturn Browne as he fell, 7-6, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 2. Alver took the first set but was unable to defeat Heavey as he fell, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 position. Solares was unable to get past Nakahara as he fell, 6-2, 6-1. The No. 3 singles match between Murgier and Sebescen did not finish before the match was called.
The Mustangs return home for a total of nine matches beginning with a double-header on Sat., March 24 with matches against Oklahoma St. and Centenary.
