Birmingham, Ala. (SMU) - SMU sophomore Kelly Kraft carded a final-round 69 to finish at 6-under 204 and claim medalist honors at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at Old Overton Club on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Kraft, who entered the day tied for third, mounted a strong final push to finish at 1-under on the day and claim the win.
As a team, SMU took third at 838 in the loaded tournament, besting two top-10 teams - No. 5 Baylor and No. 8 UNLV. Host and 10th-ranked Alabama won the team event at 830.
Freshman Max Buckley helped the Mustangs on Tuesday, posting SMU's second-best score of the day with a 71. He finished tied for 35th at 216. Sophomore Marc Sambol, who entered the day tied for third with Kraft, shot 75 on Tuesday and finished tied for 15th at 210. James Kwon and Draegen Majors shot 76 and 78, respectively, on Tuesday and finished tied for 32nd and 35th.
