Mustang Volleyball NLI Signees Earn Prestigious League Awards

DALLAS (SMU)-SMU volleyball added two Mustangs to their roster for the 2009-10 season when Kendrick Koch and Courtney Manning signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday. The additions will add all-around support for SMU, as Koch will lend her efforts to the offense as a setter, and Manning, a middle blocker, will help the Mustangs continue to solidify their prominence as a defensive power.
Head coach Lisa Seifert is excited about the prospects of her newest members of the Mustang squad. "We are adding two very talented volleyball athletes with this class. I expect both players to establish themselves immediately."
Koch will come to SMU from Ursuline Academy High School, where her performance as the team's setter earned her numerous season awards, including All-District and Offensive MVP for the Dallas TAPPS 1-5A league. Koch's latest accomplishment includes earning the prestigious award of Setter of the Year for the league.
"Kendrick has been ranked in the top 100 in her class by Prep Volleyball and participated with the USA National High Performance Program. She is a 5'10" left handed setter who will bring a new look to our offense," said SMU head coach Lisa Seifert.
Courtney Manning will join the Mustangs from Mesquite High School where she was a standout middle blocker and recently received the highest honor in the District 11-5A league, Player of the Year. Manning also received numerous accolades for her hard work including Hitter of the Year, as well as all-tournament team selections and all-district. Said Seifert, "Courtney is a very dynamic athlete and will bring more hard banging offense to the middle blocking core we already have."
