Mustang Kendra Kahanek C-USA Defensive Player Of The Week

DALLAS (SMU)-Junior Kendra Kahanek has earned C-USA volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for her exceptional performance in the Mustangs' win over Tulsa on Sunday as announced by the league office. Kahanek played a pivotal role in the win, effectively shutting down the Golden Hurricane attack while setting SMU, C-USA, and personal blocking records.
Kahanek recorded a Conference USA record with 17 block assists, which is also a career-high for the middle blocker. As well, the mark ties for the second most total blocks for an overall match and ranks second best for a league match only. Kahanek's endeavor also accounted for a new individual match record for total blocks at SMU, replacing Natalie Peter's figure of 15, as well as registered for a new individual match record for blocks in four sets.
As a team, SMU registered 40 block assists, which ties an overall and league only block assists mark. Kahanek's efforts helped the Mustangs tie the SMU match record for total blocks set earlier in the year with 20.
Kahanek also achieved her second double-double of the season by tacking on 11 kills. She currently ranks second in C-USA with a 1.34 block assists per set, and as of last week was ranked in the NCAA top 30 for blocks per set. This is Kahanek's first weekly honor.
