TEXARKANA, Ark. (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team is in ninth place at 7-over 295 after the opening round of the 2008 C-USA Men's Golf Championship. A total of 55 golfers played 18 holes in Sunday's opening round at the par 72, 6,935-yard Texarkana Country Club with temperatures in the high-70's and a steady breeze.
The Mustangs played through a tough opening round with no SMU golfer able to break par. Ben Tewes and Dan Kleckner carded 73s and are tied for 22nd, while Kelly Kraft is 32nd at 74. James Minahan's 75 has him 41st, while Scott Barton's 76 puts him 43rd.
There is a six-way tie for first place in the individual standings after 18, while Memphis leads the team tournament at 11-under 277.
Tee time Monday is set for 8 a.m. and Tuesday's final round tees off at 7:40 a.m. with teams going off both the front and back nine. The winner of the C-USA Championship receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
