NORWALK, Calif. (SMU) - The SMU track and field team posted its first sprint relay win of the season on Saturday, April 19, as Alexandria Smith, Gayla Cloud, Ilyssa Pettigrew and Nnenna Ejesieme combined to win the 4x400m relay in 3:51.54 at the VS Athletics Beach Invitational at Cerritos College. Fifty-four schools competed in the event along with a number of clubs and athletes training for USATF National Meets and 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Christina Mueller, who had won the discus at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday night, competed again and was the top collegiate thrower at the Invite, posting a 51.01m heave. Back on the track, Samantha Means posted a fifth-place finish in the 5,000m, while Cloud and Smith also posted strong hurdles finishes, taking seventh and eighth in their respective races.
