LINCOLN, Neb. (SMU)--The SMU track team wrapped up its first day of competition at the NCAA Midwest Regionals. Christina Mueller was the only Mustang to score on the first day, picking up points in the discus.
Mueller threw the discus 51.73m (169-09), good for fourth place overall, giving the Mustangs five points. Freshman Kylie Spurgeon also competed in the discus, throwing 47.63m (156-03), finishing 12th overall.
Lauren Kuhner participated in the hammer throw, heaving the implement 54.73m (179-07), placing her ninth overall.
Senior Ilyssa Pettigrew ran the 800m in 2:09.09, placing her fifth overall in the prelims, and qualifying her for a spot in the finals. Pettigrew will compete again Saturday at 5:25pm in the event final.
Gayla Cloud competed in the 100m hurdles, completing the course in 14.16, good for 21st overall.
Three Mustangs will compete Saturday. Pettigrew will run the 800m final, while Silje Fjortoft is expected to run the 3,000m steeplechase and Andrea Kvetova will throw the javelin.
