SMU Volleyball To Host UCF And Southern Miss

Dallas (SMU)-SMU Volleyball (7-7, 0-1 C-USA) will compete for a pair of conference wins this weekend when the Mustangs take on UCF (9-5, 1-0 C-USA) this Friday September 26 at 7 p.m. followed by Southern Miss (10-4; 0-1 C-USA) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Moody Coliseum.
Heading into this weekend's matches, the Mustangs posted an impressive pre-season win against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (9-2) of the ACC who are ranked right outside the Top 25 bubble in the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll. Also impressive, are the four Mustangs who accrued All-Tournament honors for their pre-season tournament performances. Sophomore Kathryn Wilkerson and freshman Dana Powell collected honors at the SMU Radisson Invite; Junior Kendra Kahanek was selected to the Magnolia Invitational All-Tournament Team; Senior Natalie Peters earned a selection at the Denver Invitational.
On defense, the Mustangs are currently ranked an exceptional 27th in the nation for digs per set with 16.17. In conference, the Mustangs are second in digs with 16.19 and are anxiously looking to take over the top spot from Rice. Individually, Freshman Sidney Stewart ranks fourth in digs with 4.04 per set and 210 overall for Conference-USA and Powell comes in at 7th with 3.54 digs per set and 184 total. At the net, Kahanek ranks 2nd in Conference-USA for blocks with a total count of 62 and 1.22 in blocks per set, this also earns her a rank of 48th in the NCAA.
Peters continues to strive for the title of All-Time career block leader as she is only 26 blocks away from taking over Melissa Godwin's record of 443. At the moment, Peters has 418 total blocks for her career.
