DALLAS (SMU)-SMU rowing announces the signing of Columbia Herzlinger who will join the squad for the 2009-10 season. Herzlinger hails from Saratoga Springs, New York where she rows for Saratoga Crew on the varsity eight, which earned a gold medal at the North American Rowing Championships and a bronze medal at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championships.
"We are very excited about signing Columbia. She is a very good athlete with tremendous spirit and a deep passion for rowing and competition. Saratoga is a great program that is well coached, and she has been an integral part of their program's success this past year. She will be a great asset to our team's chemistry and to our ability to compete at a higher level," said SMU head rowing coach Doug Wright.
No slouch in the classroom either, Herzlinger was honored as an outstanding student by the Saratoga Springs Rotary Club for earning an average of 90 or higher for at least three of the four quarters of the 2007-08 academic year.
