TULSA, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU track & field team tops the leaderboard after day two of the 2009 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
SMU swept two of the top three spots in the women's discus as freshman Simone du Toit edged two-time defending champion and teammate Christina Mueller for the title. The rookie won her first outdoor crown with a toss of 53.94m (177-00), while Mueller had a season-best toss of 51.73m (169-09) to place second. Both earned All-C-USA honors. The Mustangs have now won the last three C-USA discus titles.
In the women's high jump, SMU freshman Viktoria Leks took second with a mark of 1.78m (5-10.00). With the effort, Leks earned All-C-USA honors.
SMU currently leads with 41 points, but Rice trails by just one point with 40.
Championship action wraps up on Saturday with field events starting at noon, followed by the running events at 5 p.m.
