DALLAS, Texas (SMU) -- Six Mustangs qualified for the NCAA West First Round – the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. SMU will begin the competition on Thursday in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Nea Sanders will kick off the action in the 100-meter hurdles at 6 p.m. tomorrow. The long jump starts at 6:30 p.m. with Cleo Martin-Evans in the field. Macey Hilton will be in the 800 at 7:50 p.m. with Kirin Chacchia following in the next race to compete in the 400-meter hurdles. The top 24 runners will advance to Saturday's quarterfinals for an opportunity to secure their spot at nationals. The top three from each heat and the next six fastest times move on to Saturday. The top 12 athletes will continue to the championship in Eugene.
Joining the meet on Saturday will be Lotta Edzards and Hedda Kvalvag in the triple jump. The jumpers must place in the top 12 to advance to the championship.
