TULSA, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU track & field team finished third at the 2009 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium on Saturday, May 16. SMU finished the meet with 96 points, while Rice won with 131. Following the meet, SMU's Simone Du Toit was named Freshman of the Year.

Saturday's action featured several strong showings by SMU student-athletes, including wins by du Toit in the shot put, Silje Fjortoft in the 5,000m, Ilyssa Pettigrew in the 800m and the SMU's 4x400m relay team. SMU also got a runner-up effort from Fjortoft in the 1,500m.
