DALLAS (SMU) - SMU and Northwestern State will face off on Sept. 17, 2011, the two schools announced today. With the game signed, SMU's 2011 opponents are finalized. SMU's 2011 schedule will now consist of home games against Navy, Northwestern State, Rice, Tulane, UCF and UTEP, and road games at Houston, Memphis, Southern Miss, Texas A&M (Sept. 3), TCU (Oct. 1) and Tulsa. Conference USA game dates will be set next spring.
The opportunity for the Mustang-Demon game arose after SMU and Baylor agreed to drop their 2011 game due to the new nine-game Big 12 schedule.
Northwestern State is coached by former Mustang letterwinner and alumnus Bradley Dale Peveto. Peveto, who is in his second season at NSU, played from 1982-86 at SMU, where he was a safety, special teams star and team captain while the Mustangs went 43-14.
