THIS WEEK IN MUSTANG VOLLEYBALL
7 p.m. Nov. 19 HOUSTON (19-10, 13-4 C-USA) at SMU (23-5, 15-2 C-USA)
Series History: Houston leads 10-6
Last Match: The SMU volleyball team lost at Houston, 3-1 (24-26, 21-25, 25-21, 26-28) on Oct 23. Libero Sidney Stewart tallied a match-high 34 digs, which is tied for the fourth highest total this season. Senior Kathryn Wilkerson totaled 13 kills and three blocks.
12 p.m. Nov. 21 RICE (15-14, 10-7 C-USA) at SMU (23-5, 15-2 C-USA)
Series History: Rice leads 19-10
Last Match: The SMU volleyball team earned a critical road win at Rice, 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-21, 25-16), on Oct 22. Junior outside hitter Dana Powell led the Mustangs with 19 kills. Senior outside hitter Kathryn Wilkerson and middle blocker Courtney Manning also earned double-digit kills with 13 and 10, respectively. Senior Caitlin Adair was efficient on the night, converting on 7 of 13 swings to register a match-high .462 hitting percentage.
THIS WEEK'S ACTION:
Following another 2-0 week, SMU welcomes Houston and Rice for the final homestand of the season. This past weekend, the Mustangs received wins over UTEP, 3-2, and UCF, 3-1. SMU enters the weekend's competitions 23-5 overall this season and in second place of C-USA with a 15-2 league record.
The Mustangs defeated Rice, but lost to Houston during a road trip earlier this season. SMU defeated the Owls, 3-1, and lost to the Cougars, 3-1, the following night.
The Ponies enter the weekend on a roll after winning their last six matches. With 23 wins this season, SMU is currently tied for the highest win total in program history. This year's team is tied with the 2003 team, which finished the season 23-7. This season marks the third season in program history that the Mustangs have gathered 20+ wins.
This weekend, the Mustangs will honor seniors Kathryn Wilkerson, Kenzie Bukolt and Caitlin Adair for their contributions to SMU volleyball before Sunday's match.
Following this weekend's matches, SMU will travel to Tulsa on Nov. 27 for the final regular season match. The Golden Hurricane currently hold a two-match lead over the Mustangs for first place in Conference USA and host Houston and Rice this weekend. Earlier this season, Tulsa edged the Mustangs, 3-2, in a thrilling match at Moody Coliseum.
MUSTANGS INK FOUR: SMU volleyball head coach Lisa Seifert announced the signing of four student-athletes to letters of intent to attend SMU and play for the 2011 Mustang volleyball team. The signees include outside hitters Savannah Myklebust, Caroline Young and Carla Armstrong, and middle blocker Julia Westerbur.
