THIS WEEK IN MUSTANG VOLLEYBALL:
2 P.M. SAT, NOV. 27 - SMU (25-5, 17-2 C-USA) at TULSA (29-2, 19-0 C-USA)
SERIES HISTORY: SMU leads 17-13
LAST MATCHUP: The SMU volleyball team fell 3-2 to Tulsa on Oct. 6 at Moody Coliseum. Three Mustangs tallied double-digit kills in the contest. Dana Powell led SMU with 19 and tied a season-high with 21 digs. Kathryn Wilkerson finished with 17 kills and Jessica Oliver with 13. As a team, the Mustangs swung at a .276 hitting percentage. Tulsa was carried by sophomore Tyler Henderson, who tied the Conference USA all-time single match record with 45 kills.
SMU VOLLEYBALL OVERVIEW: Following another 2-0 week, SMU travels to Conference USA leader, Tulsa. This past weekend, the Mustangs received wins over Houston, 3-2, and Rice, 3-2. SMU enters the weekend's competitions 25-5 overall this season and in second place of C-USA with a 17-2 league record.
The Mustangs lost to Tulsa in an exciting match earlier this season, 3-2, in Moody Coliseum.
The Golden Hurricane enter this match undefeated during league play and have clinched the regular season title. Tulsa earns an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by winning C-USA championship.
The Ponies enter the weekend on a roll after winning their last eight matches. With 25 wins this season, the 2010 team set the mark for the highest single-season win total in program history. This year marks the third season in program history that the Mustangs have gathered 20+ wins.
PROGRAM NOTES:
Volleyball Boasts Five All-C-USA Selections: The SMU volleyball team placed five athletes on the All-Conference USA team as announced by the league today. Outside hitters Dana Powell and Kathryn Wilkerson earned first-team honors, while Kelli Becerra, Courtney Manning and Jessica Oliver garnered second-team selections.
Adair And Powell Named To C-USA All-Academic Team: SMU's Caitlin Adair and Dana Powell were named to the Conference USA All-Academic Volleyball team by the league today. Both Adair and Powell make the team for the first time in their careers.
Sidney Stewart Named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week: SMU junior Sidney Stewart collected her league-best fourth Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honor, the league announced today. The libero averaged an impressive 6.0 digs per set in the Mustangs' five-set victories over Rice and Houston this past week.
Senior Finale: The SMU volleyball team defeated Rice 3-2 (21-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 20-18) on Senior-Day on Sunday afternoon at Moody Coliseum. Sophomore Courtney Manning led the Mustangs with nine kills and only one error to post a .471 hitting percentage. She also added nine blocks on the afternoon.
Caitlin Adair, Kenzie Bukolt and Kathryn Wilkerson were all honored during the pre-game ceremonies for Senior Day. Adair had seven kills and six blocks, while Wilkerson collected 15 kills and 26 digs.
