Dana Powell Named AVCA All-America

TAMPA, Fla. (SMU/AVCA) --- SMU junior Dana Powell was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Honorable Mention on Wednesday, earning the honor for the second-consecutive season.
Powell, an outside hitter from Tulsa, Okla., led the Mustangs this season with 396 kills and was second on the team with 429 digs. With this year's selection, Powell becomes the first Mustang in program history to earn multiple AVCA All-America selections. Last year, Powell and middle blocker Kendra Kahanek were the first SMU athletes to earn the honor in program history.
The Mustangs finished second in Conference USA this season and tallied a program-high 25 wins. SMU returns five starters in 2011, including four All-Conference USA selections.
