ABILENE, Texas (SMU) - The SMU track & field team earned four victories and posted eight top-three finishes, Saturday at the Oliver Jackson Open at Elmer Gray Stadium on the campus of Abilene Christian. Simone Du Toit earned two victories, winning both the discus throw and the shot put. Her discus throw of 54.45m was a season-best, and good for sixth in the NCAA in the event this season.
Lauren Kuhner had two of the Mustangs' top-three finishes, winning the hammer throw with a throw of 56.54m and placing third in the discus throw with a mark of 44.56m.
Victoria Leks' mark of 1.70m in the high jump won her the event, for her second win in as many weeks.
Ayla Gill placed second in the hammer throw, finishing with a throw of 56.19m. On the track, Amber Evans had a pair of runner-up finishes. She clocked in at 12.05 second in the 100 meter dash. In the 200 meter dash, she had a time of 24.27.
In the 400 meter hurdles, Chelsea Wells clocked in at 1:04.64, good for fourth in the event.
SMU will now have a week off, before the Conference USA Championships begin on May 13-15 in Orlando, Fla.
