AUSTIN (SMU) - SMU junior Silje Fjortoft and sophomore Simone du Toit qualified for the NCAA Championships in competition at the Mike A. Myers Track And Soccer Stadium on Friday, May 28.

Fjortoft bettered a field of 48 runners to win the 3,000m steeplechase in 10:08.20, while du Toit won the discus with a personal-best throw of 54.80m (179-9") and finished second in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 16.71m (54-10") in 48-competitor fields.

du Toit and Fjortoft now advance to the NCAA Championships, scheduled for June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore., at host Oregon's Hayward Field.
