LAS CRUCES, N.M. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team wrapped up play today at the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate at the New Mexico State University golf course. The team finished tied for ninth place after carding a 302 in the final round.
"We're continuing to make small improvements at every tournament, and every round," said SMU head coach Jeanne Sutherland. "We just need to stop making double and triple bogeys at courses you can easily make a bogey at worst."
Felicia Espericueta fired a 72 in the final round to move up the standings and to finish tied for 24th. The junior was SMU's top finisher after carding a 7-over (76-75-72--223). After shooting a 78 on the final day, Maria Elena Villamil ended the tournament in a tie for 27th, one stroke behind Espericueta.
Senior Jennifer Hooper finished two shots behind Villamil after carding a 75 in the final round.
SMU is off next week as the team prepares for the Alamo Invitational in San Antonio, Texas beginning on Oct. 30.
