Complete Results

WACO, Texas (SMU) - No. 10 Marta Lesniak advanced to the women's singles semifinals Sunday, defeating three competitors in her path, at the HEB Baylor Women's Invitational. After receiving a bye the first round as the number one seed for the tournament, Lesniak defeated Texas A&M's Lauren Santocroce 6-4, 6-1. She moved on to defeat Alina Volman (S. Alabama) 6-3, 6-1 and the number eight seed Federica Denti (TCU) 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. After a long battle in the semifinal round, Lesniak was ultimately defeated in the semifinals by Texas A&M's Cristina Sanchez-Quintanaro (the number two-seed for the tournament) 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Also competing in the singles event for SMU were Edyta Cieplucha, Erika Marshall, Perri Anderson, and Kris Roberts. Cieplucha advanced to the round of 16 before she was defeated by Texas A&M's Sun Wen. Marshall was defeated by the tournament's number seven seed, Maria Martinez (UTA), in the round of 32. She made it to the quarterfinal round in the consolation bracket. Roberts advanced to the third round of the singles consolation bracket while Anderson made it to the quarterfinals of the singles consolation bracket.

For the doubles tournament, Cieplucha teamed up with Heather Steinbauer as the number one seed. They were defeated in the round of 16 by Olivier and Santocroce from Texas A&M 9-8(5). Perri Anderson and Kris Roberts advanced to the final round of the doubles consolation bracket, but were defeated by Sardinha and Simmons of Oklahoma State.

The women's tennis team will compete next at the ITA Fall Regionals Oct. 21-24 in Fort Worth, Texas.
