TUCSON, Ariz. (SMU) - For the second time in a little over a week, the SMU men's golf team has beaten ranked teams, this time topping No. 30 Indiana, No. 38 Kent State, No. 41 TCU and No. 44 UNLV en route to a second-place finish at the National Invitational Tournament at Omni Tucson National Golf Club. Just last week, the Mustangs scored a big win at the San Diego Intercollegiate, topping a field of 12 teams, including No. 6 San Diego State and No. 19 San Diego, to earn the team championship.
SMU finished the 54-hole event at 874, just seven shots behind tournament champion Tulsa (867). The Mustangs were led by Matt Schovee, whose final-round 68 catapulted him to a seventh-place finish at 1-over 215. Marc Sambol (218) and Kelly Kraft (221) also managed top-20 finishes, placing 11th and 17th, respectively.
