M-Tennis Advances To C-USA Semifinals

TULSA, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU men's tennis team defeated UAB 4-0 on Friday afternoon in quarterfinal action of the Conference USA Men's Tennis Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. With the win, the Mustangs are now 17-8 on the season and have earned a spot in the conference tournament semifinals.

SMU opened the tournament by earning the doubles point. The duo of Tobias Flood and Joseph Hattrup defeated Tom Puetz and David Zimmerman 8-4. Adham el-Effendi and Darren Walsh combined to beat Chris Helliar and Danny Manlow 8-6. Gaston Cuadranti and Artem Baradach fell to Lucas Dirube and Daniel Moser 8-5.

In singles play, David Costa was first to finish, making quick work of Puetz 6-2, 6-1. Cuadranti also turned in a dominating performance as he downed Dirube 6-2, 6-2. Mischa Nowicki had a strong showing as he picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win over Moser to earn the final point for the Mustangs.

SMU plays its semifinal match tomorrow at 3 p.m. against the winner of the Rice/Tulane quarterfinal.
