Mustangs In Second After Rain-Soaked Day One

MADISON, Wis. (SMU) - Coming off of its win at the Chip-N Club Invitational two weeks ago, the SMU women's golf team currently sits in second place at the Badger Invitational after day one, just two shots behind host Wisconsin.
Felicia Espericueta continues her hot start to the fall season, shooting 3-under through 32 holes at University Ridge golf course. Two weeks ago, the junior won the Chip-N Club Invitational, her first tournament win as a Mustang.
Espericueta and her teammates will have to wait until tomorrow to finish second round play as thunderstorms halted play for nearly two hours. After play resumed, the second round was suspended due to darkness after less than an hour. Round three is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., after the conclusion of round two.
All five Mustangs currently sit in the top 20. Espericueta leads the field, while Maria Elena Villamil is tied for seventh after shooting 6-over and Jennifer Hooper is tied for ninth at 8-over. Elizabeth Wells is tied for 11th after shooting 9-over and Claire Kinsey tied for 20th at 11-over.
As a team, Wisconsin (+14) currently holds a two shot lead over SMU, while Georgetown (+34) is in the third.
