AMES, Iowa (SMU) - The SMU track and field collected 12 Top-10 finishes this weekend at the Iowa State Classic, highlighted by school records in the 60 meters and 3000 meters.
Day one saw freshman Craishia Washington the SMU 60 meters with a time of 7.59, .05 seconds that Amber Evans' mark last season. The time earned her spot in the today's 60-meter finals where she placed fifth (7.65). Washington also had a sixth place finish in the 200 meters, coming in at 24.67, the fastest time of her young career.
Junior Kristine Eikrem-Engeset set another school record this season, this time in the 3000 meters as she clocked in a 9:33.09, which broke Andrea Marquardt's time of 9:33.58 that was set in 1993.
Both Eikrem-Engeset and Washington also picked up a third place finish as part of the distance medley with Mary Alenbratt and Kajsa Barr.
In throwing events, the Mustangs came away with a pair of Top-Three performances as Helena Perez finished second on the non-seeded shot put with a toss of 14.75m, while Ayla Gill was third in the non-seeded weight throw with a mark of 17.73m.
SMU will take next weekend off before heading to Birmingham, Ala., for the Conference USA Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-26.
