KAHUKU, Hawaii (SMU) - The SMU men's golf wrapped up play at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at Turtle Bay Resort today, carding a 300 in the final round. The team finished in sixth place behind five Top-25 teams, while Sam Fidone ended the three-day tournament tied for third place at 5-under. The freshman bested his tournament-low score by nine strokes, shooting a 211.
On the day, SMU's top scores came from seniors Marc Sambol and Matt Schovee after both carded a 74, 2-over par. Sambol birdied the final two holes while Schovee birdied 16 and had an eagle on 18. The Mustangs youth, Fidone and sophomore Harry Higgs each shot 4-over par (76).
SMU will be in Palm Desert, Calif., next weekend as the team competes in the Wyoming Desert Classic on Feb. 25-26.
