ASU Invitational Results

AUGUSTA, Ga. (SMU) - After a tough start to the day at the Insperity Augusta State Invitational, the No. 39 SMU men's golf team came up with second round that showed why they have earned four-straight top-five finishes. With a 9-under, 279, the Mustangs ended day one at 2-over par, tied for 11th place in a field that is littered with teams ranked in the Top 50.

Seniors Marc Sambol and Matt Schovee currently have SMU's low scores at even par. Sambol got back into the mix with a second round 4-under (68) behind three birdies and an eagle on 17, leading the Mustangs charge in the second round. Schovee had rounds of 71 and 73, with an eagle in each round

After a first round 76, freshman Sam Fidone rallied in the second round, with a 3-under (69), fueled by four birdies on the back nine. Sophomore Harry Higgs is one behind the freshman after a 2-under (70) second round.

Final round action for the Mustangs will begin tomorrow at 8:25 a.m. CT.
