ASU Invitational Final Results 
AUGUSTA, Ga. (SMU) - With a 5-under par for the day, the No. 39 SMU men's golf team finished tied for 10th at the Insperity Augusta State Invitational at Forrest Hills Golf Club. Over the final two rounds, the Mustangs moved up six spots after shooting a combined 14-under. SMU had a three-round total of 861 (299-279-283).
"Obviously, 10th place isn't what we were looking for, but to shoot 14-under over the last two rounds is very impressive and shows the character of our team," said SMU head coach Josh Gregory. "They showed me a lot of heart and toughness."
Matt Schovee had the top score of the weekend for the Mustangs, carding a 2-under after finishing with a 2-under 70 in the final round. The senior finished tied for 23rd place. Marc Sambol was one stroke behind Schovee with a 1-under 215 (76-68-71). The senior moved SMU into a tie for 10th with a birdie on his final hole.
Freshman Sam Fidone and sophomore Harry Higgs also finished in the top 35, tying for 34th at 1-over. Senior Max Buckley was 1-under in the final round to finish the tournament with a 223.
SMU finished behind eight teams ranked in the top 50, while topping No. 14 Clemson.
"This was a very strong field so this event was a tremendous test for us and good preparation for the postseason," Gregory said. "We proved over the final two rounds that we can be a great team, you just can't shoot 11-over in round one and expect to win."
The Mustangs head to Houston, Texas, next weekend to compete in the All-American Intercollegiate on April 8-9.
