THE WOODLANDS, Texas (SMU) - Led by the solid play of Harry Higgs and Marc Sambol, the No. 41 SMU men's golf team finished in fourth place at 7-under par (290-281-286--857) at the Woodlands All-American Intercollegiate at The Woodlands Country Club.

"It was another solid finish for us today," said SMU head coach Josh Gregory. "Overall, we played very well against a solid field. We continue to shoot under-par rounds—12 of 21 this spring. Today, we broke the school record for most rounds under par in a season and are on pace to set the record for low-scoring average as well. That is extremely gratifying and shows the improvement of this team."

Higgs came out and hit five birdies today with three coming in the first six holes. The sophomore's third-round 69 earned him sixth place at 5-under, the second top-10 finish of the season for him and best result of his young career.

Despite going 2-over in the final round, Sambol, the catalyst for the Mustangs in the second round, ended the tournament one shot behind Higgs at 4-under, finishing tied for seventh. The senior ended the tournament with the second-most birdies in the field at 15.

"Harry and Marc have truly stepped up their play recently," Gregory added. "If we can get four of five guys clicking on the same week, we will win soon. We have a great opportunity to do that this weekend at Ohio State."

Max Buckley finished tied for the 29th place at 2-over after going even par for the day. Matt Schovee was 1-under for the round, finishing the tournament tied for 42nd at 4-over. After an 81 in the first round, Sam Fidone had a solid final two rounds of play, going 2-over.

No. 10 Arkansas won the tournament at 23-under. SMU defeated a pair of top-30 teams in No. 17 Clemson and No. 28 Baylor.

The Mustangs will head to Columbus, Ohio, this weekend to compete in the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on April 14-15, before returning home to host the Payne Stewart Cup, the annual fundraising event for the men's golf program, on April 16.
