WALNUT, Calif. (SMU) - Helena Perez won in shot put, and SMU had a very successful Thursday and Friday in distance events at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.
Perez took the shot put title with a distance of 15.85 meters, just off her personal best.
Three Mustangs posted personal best finishes in the 10,000 meter run. Karoline Skatteboe finished fourth in her event, crossing the line in 34:47.45, the third-best mark in SMU history. Caitlin Keen also finished fifth in her run, posting a time of 35:56.22, fourth in SMU history. Ashlee Powers beat her previous personal record by about six seconds, finishing in 36:36.65, sixth at SMU.
Mary Alenbratt set the fourth-best time in Mustang history in her first-ever 5,000 meter run, crossing the line in 16:15.77.
Other SMU competitors will be at the 2013 Michael Johnson Dr Pepper Classic tomorrow. More information on the meet can be found here.
