DENTON, Texas (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs won eight events at the North Texas Classic on Friday and Saturday, including taking the top spot in six running events.
Elizabeth Murphy kicked off the winning weekend on Friday with a hammer throw result of 59.99 meters. Helena Perez finished second, posting a personal best distance of 57.05.
Stephanie Kalu won the 100 meter dash in 11.40. Rachel Scruggs took the top spot in the 400 meter dash with a 54.62. Mary Alenbratt won the the 800 meter run in 2:11.32. The Mustangs also swept the top-three spots in the 5000 meter run, with Ashlee Powers leading the way with a personal-best time of 17:31.50. Skatteboe took second (17:35.48) and Caitlin Keen placed third (18:12.92).
Isis Wilson posted the second-best 400 meter hurdles time in SMU history, placing first with a time of 1:00.20.
SMU took the 4x400 meter relay crown, with the foursome of Craishia Washington, Wilson, Kalu and Scruggs crossing the line in 3:43.78.
Rayann Chin won in the discus, throwing a personal-best distance of 53.22m.
Courtney Madden placed third in the long jump, recording a mark of 5.47m. Washington placed third in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 23.92.
SMU's next meet is the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. The three-day event starts April 18.
