DALLAS (SMU) - Freshman Dasha Sharapova won her third match of the spring following her victory over Memphis junior Alyssa Hibberd in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 3 singles position, but No. 31 Memphis was too strong over the course of the match, beating the Mustangs, 5-2, in Dallas on Saturday. Sharapova improved her overall record to 9-7 this season.
With the loss, SMU falls to 1-7 overall and 0-1 in The American while Memphis improves to 6-2, 1-0 AAC.
In addition, freshman Anna Kate Anderson competed at the No. 6 singles position and defeated Tiger senior Liza Tymchenko by scores of 7-6, 4-6, 10-6. Anderson is now 7-10 overall.
Memphis won both the second and third positions to take the opening doubles point. The Tigers then won in the No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 positions in singles to take the victory.
SMU is back in action on Friday as the team travels to Fort Worth, Texas to take on No. 40 TCU at 3 p.m. CST.
