DALLAS (SMU) - Freshman Anna Kate Anderson won her second match in a row with her victory over TCU senior Tatum Nowlin in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 6 singles position, but the No. 41 ranked Horned Frogs were too strong and defeated the Mustangs, 4-3, in Fort Worth on Friday. Anderson improved her overall record to 8-10 this season.
TCU took the opening doubles point and then won at the No. 1, 2 and 5 singles positions to secure the match victory. With the loss, SMU drops to 1-8 this spring while TCU improved to 4-5.
In addition to Anderson, freshman Dasha Sharapova (10-7) and sophomore Yana Erkeeva (11-7) notched the other SMU victories as they competed at the No. 3 and 4 singles positions and each won by retirement.
In doubles, Erkeeva and freshman Macie Elliott defeated Nowlin and Horned Frog freshman Sofiko Kadzhaya, 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles match. The victory improved the Mustang tandems overall record to 8-4.
SMU is back in action on Sat., March 1 when the team plays host to Sam Houston State at 10 a.m. and UTEP at 2 p.m. Those matches will be played at the Northwood Country Club in Dallas.
