TAMPA, Fla. (SMU) - Sophomore Yana Erkeeva notched her fifth victory in a row with a thrilling three-set victory over USF senior Fanny Fracassi, 0-6, 7-6, 10-8, but the Bulls proved to be too strong as they defeated the Mustangs, 6-1 in Tampa, Fla. on Wednesday. SMU is back in action tomorrow in Orlando at UCF at 11 a.m. CT.
USF (9-3, 2-0) earned the opening the doubles point of the match by winning at the No. 2 and 3 positions. The Bulls then won the No. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles matches to secure the dual match victory over the Mustangs (5-9, 1-2).
In doubles, sophomore Vaszilisza Bulgakova and freshman Dasha Sharapova improved their overall record to 10-3 as the Mustang duo disposed of USF's No. 1 doubles pair, 8-6.
Following tomorrow's match at UCF, SMU is back in action on March 22 at 12 p.m. when the Mustangs host No. 23 ranked and American Athletic Conference foe Houston at the Northwood Country Club in Dallas.
