SMU Competes In Inaugural Baylor Invitational

WACO, Texas -- The SMU women's track & field team competed in the inaugural Baylor Invitational on Friday at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.

The Mustangs' top finish of the day came from senior sprinter Stephanie Kalu, who placed second in the 100-meter dash (11.62). Kalu's time ranks in the top ten nationally and is the fastest time in the American Athletic Conference.  

Craishia Washington also competed in the 100-meter, finishing sixth (11.84). Kalu and Washington ran in the 200-meter as well, with Kalu placing eighth (24.22) and Washington 10th (24.78).

Rayann Chin and Tochi Nlemchi each finished in the top ten in throwing events. Chin placed sixth in the discus (49.80m) and set a new personal record in the hammer throw, finishing 12th (53.32m).  Nlemchi placed fifth in the shot put (14.92m) and 13th in the discus (45.71m). Jacquetta Cannon also competed in the shot, placing 13th (12.09m).

Lucija Cvitanovic competed in two events for SMU. Her top finish came in the javelin, where she placed sixth (44.16m). The junior from Croatia also finished 24th in the 400-meter (1:01.27). Rachel Scruggs was the Mustangs' top finisher in the 400-meter, finishing 12th (57.13).

Freshman Isabella Marten recorded a top-ten finish in the long jump, finishing sixth (5.65m). Carly Shuttlesworth aslo competed in the long jump, placing 23rd (4.65m).

Freshman Anna Novosadova competed in both hurdles event, taking 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.62) and 24th in the 100-meter hurdles (15.34).

Claire Trotter and Julie Vanderhout were the lone distance runners competing in Waco. In the 1,500-meter, Trotter finished 24th (5:06.48) and Vanderhout placed 26th (5:12.04). In the 3,000-meter, Trotter crossed the finish line 13th (10:44.79) and Vanderhout finished 19th (11:13.08).

Senior Caitlin Keen competed in the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday. Keen was the top collegiate finisher and set a new PR with a time of 35:31.

The rest of the SMU distance squad competed in Stanford Invitational on Friday. Due to the time difference, a recap of that event will be posted tomorrow morning.
