STORRS, Conn. -- The SMU women's track & field team leads the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship heading into the final day, following a dominating performance in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase to end day three at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Connecticut.

The Mustangs swept the steeple, led by Karoline Skatteboe who finished first with a time of 10:37.36.  Shanoah Souza followed in second (10:44.27) and Agnes Sjostrom rounded out the top three (10:51.13).

"Those girls handled the pressure really well," said head coach Dave Wollman.  "I'm really impressed with that group and what they accomplished.  The highlight goes to Karoline for being the champion.  That was a great moment for her, but Shanoah finished in a strong second and Agnes showed all heart."

A day after winning the heptathlon, Lucija Cvitanovic earned her second medal of the meet, winning the bronze in the javelin with a throw of 46.92 meters.

"Lucija added to her amazing comeback," said Wollman.  "Her performance today was gutsy.  She needed the last throw to get the team points we needed and she pulled it out on the last throw."

In the long jump, Isabella Marten finished fourth with a jump of 5.93 meters.  The freshman returns to action tomorrow with both the high and triple jumps.

"Bella is the best freshman in the conference and she may be one of the best freshmen in the country," said Wollman.  "She's really, really talented, but she also has heart and passion.  She's a great competitor."

In 100-meter prelims, Stephanie Kalu won her heat and qualified third overall (11.84).  Craishia Washington also qualified for the final based on time (11.84).

"For Craishia to come back and make the finals," said Wollman.  "I'm very proud of her."

Anna Novosadova and Rachel Scruggs also competed on Saturday in track prelims.  Novosadova, a freshman, finished 25th in the 100-meter hurdles (15.47) and Scruggs placed 15th in the 400-meter (56.47).  Both Novosadova and Scruggs did not qualify for the finals.

The championship concludes tomorrow.  Events begin at 10:30 a.m. ET/9:30 a.m. CT with the triple jump.  The final event, the 4x400 relay, is at 2:05 p.m. ET/1:05 p.m. CT.

"We put ourselves in the position we needed to today," said Wollman.  "We have a small cushion, but it's deceiving because most points are scored on the final day.  We just have to go out tomorrow and act as a team and win as a team."
