EUGENE, Ore. -- Isabella Marten put the finishing touches on a remarkable freshman season on Saturday, garnering Second Team All-American honors in the triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championship.

"I couldn't be more proud of Bella," said head coach Cathy Casey. "She closed out an outstanding freshman season with a 14th-place finish, earning Second Team All-American honors."

Marten placed 14th overall with a jump of 12.74 meters. The top eight finishers earned first team honors and finishers 9-16 landed on the second team. Georgia freshman Keturah Orji won the event with a leap of 14.15 meters.

SMU's last triple jump All-American was Diana Nikitina in 2001.

The Mustangs have had a freshman earn All-American honors for the past three seasons. Last year, Tova Magnusson earned second team honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. In 2013, Lucija Cvitanovic, who finished 22nd in the javelin this year, earned second team honors in the javelin.

Oregon won the team title with a total of 59 points. Kentucky finished second with 50 points and Texas A&M followed in third with 47 points. For more information on the NCAA Outdoor Championship, visit the meet home page.
