TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (SMU) - Redshirt freshman wide receiver Courtland Sutton was added to the 2015 Biletnikoff Award Watch List, the award committee announced today. The award, presented by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, is given to the college football season's outstanding receiver.
Sutton, one of 15 receivers joining the Biletnikoff Award Watch List today, has 17 receptions for 399 yards and five touchdowns in the first four games of the season. He has at least one touchdown catch in each game, and had two scores in the season-opener against No. 4 Baylor.
Sutton's streak of four straight games with a touchdown catch is tied for fourth-longest at SMU with Jerry LeVias (1966) and Emanuel Tolbert (1977). It is the longest streak since Aldrick Robinson set the SMU record with a TD grab in eight consecutive games in 2010. Robinson also had a streak of five games in 2008. Current Denver Broncos' receiver Emmanuel Sanders set the then-SMU standard of six straight games in 2006.
Sutton is the third Mustang to be selected to a national award watch list this season. Senior center Taylor Lasecki is on the Watch Lists for both the Rimington Trophy and Rotary Lombardi Award. Senior defensive lineman Cameron Smith is on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.
The Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee is comprised of 311 distinguished voters ( http://biletnikoffaward.com/voters). The online FanVote for the Biletnikoff Award candidates begins October 1 at http://biletnikoffaward.com/fan-vote. The 2015 Biletnikoff Award winner will be announced on December 10.
The Mustangs open American Athletic Conference play by hosting East Carolina on Saturday at 3 p.m. Tickets at 214-768-4263 or SMUMustangs.com.
