NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU women's track and field team had four individuals finish in the top-3 in their respective events. Seniors Lucija Cvitanovic and Craishia Washington, junior Tochi Nlemchi and freshman Anneke Grogan all notched a third place finish or better on the day.
Cvitanovic and Washington each ended the day with runner-up finishes, Cvitanovic in the high jump with a 1.63-meter jump in the finals and Washington in the 60-meter dash finishing with a 7.42 just behind the 7.36 of the winner, Daye Sho Roberson of Oklahoma.
Nlemchi finished third in the shot put with a 15.16-meter throw, just ahead of teammate and sophomore Jaquetta Cannon who finished with a 14.60-meter throw. Freshmen Daniella Murchison and Kennedy Godsey also placed in the top-10 in the shot put, Murchison with a 13.34-meter throw in ninth and Godsey with a 13.11-meter throw in 10th place.
Grogan finished in third place in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:29.79 in the finals and also locked in a fifth place finish in the 1-mile run with a 5:16.18. Her fifth place was less than a second behind teammate and fellow freshman Rakel Barrientos who finished the event in fourth with a time of 5:15.33.
Those finishes helped push the Mustangs to their third place finish with a final team score of 68.50 behind Incarnate Word's second place 105 and Oklahoma's winning score of 281. The next meet for SMU will be next Friday and Saturday at the Cherry and Silver Invitational at Albuquerque New Mexico.
