ABOUT SMU: The Mustangs are 10-3-1 overall and 4-0-1 in American Athletic Conference action after a 1-0 victory over East Carolina on Wednesday. SMU is tied for first in the American Athletic Conference with Connecticut. The Mustangs are receiving votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Poll, and is ranked No. 4 in the Northeast Region. Entering the match, SMU is top 10 in six NCAA statistical categories, while leading The American in the same six.

Against Abilene Christian, she scored her first career hat trick on five total shots, and three on goal. The last hat trick by any player or freshman was Claire Oates on Sept. 25, 2014 at Houston.The newcomer is second on the team in shots on goal (18) and total shots (36) to only Vanessa Valadez (23 and 39). Thornton enters the weekend ranked top-30 in three categories nationally, and top 10 in four categories in the AAC.

WINNER, WINNER!: Junior midfielder Claire Oates has scored six goals this season, four of which for game-winners. The four game-winning goals ranks her at 18th in the NCAA, and tied for second in The American.
SHARING THE WEALTH: SMU has tallied 37 assists through 14 games, eclipsing last year's total by 16. Freshman Jessica Cooley leads the team with seven, while Vanessa Valadez has tallied six. Cooley ranks 18th in assists and 23rd in assists per game (.5) among all NCAA DI players, and is third in both categories in the American Athletic Conference. Valadez ranks 43rd in assists (6) and 58th in assists per game (.43) in the NCAA. She is No. 4 in both in the AAC.
UP NEXT: Following Cincinnati, the Mustangs return home for their final two home games of the season. SMU will open with Memphis on Thursday, before celebrating its seniors on Sunday against Tulsa.
