Meet The Freshmen: Katharine Herron

The SMU women's soccer team welcomed 10 freshmen into the Mustang family, adding Brooke Kuempel,Katharine Herron, Hailey Bishop, Emily Cope, Avery Ortmann, Allie Thornton, Mary Meehan, Katina Tsapos, Jessica Cooley and Robyn Maurer. Herron, from Belleville, Ontario, Canada, is the final member in our series introducing fans to these 10 new Mustangs.
Herron has seen action in 17 games for the Mustangs, with four starts. She has logged 603 minutes so far this season, with a high of 67 minutes against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Herron scored her first collegiate goal at UCF, heading in a corner kick from fellow freshman Mary Meehan. Her first collegiate point came against Saint Louis, where she was credited with an assist on a Blair Thorpe goal. She has recorded four shots, with three on frame (75.0 percent).
In high school, Herron played for the Woodbridge Strikers 98 Girls team, while playing at Bayside Secondary School under  Graham Collins. With the Woodbridge Strikers, Herron helped the team to consecutive UMBRO and PDA Showcase championships (2014-15), and two OYSLA East Division silver medals. While at Bayside, she helped the team to a bronze medal in the Ontario Soccer Championships. She was also named the team captain and MVP in 2015. Herron also competed in gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, track and field and cross country. In 2014, Herron was the junior athlete of the year.

What's one word you would use to describe this year's team? Hungry
What's is one of the greatest strengths of this year's team? We have many versatile players who can each be a threat in multiple different positions
How have your teammates and coaches helped you become acclimated to college? My teammates welcomed me into life at SMU and it feels like I've already made many long-lasting friends. Also the coaches are always supportive, encouraging and very approachable in any situation.
