MANSFIELD, Texas (SMU) – The SMU men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the three-day Art Adamson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M on Saturday evening at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium. The three-day event featured top competition in Arizona State, Texas A&M, LSU, TCU and Incarnate Word.
Freshmen
Ronen Faur and
Ralph Koo continue to have standout first seasons for the Mustangs, as the pair combined for three Consolation Final appearances at the event. Faur competed in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke B Finals, placing second (10th overall) in the 200 distance at 2:01.69, and fourth (12th overall) in the 100 at 56.76. Faur's preliminary 56.63 in the 100 was a career best.
Koo joined seven swimmers in the B Final of the 50-yard freestyle and was sixth in the heat and 14th overall at 20.60. He also swam a career best in the opening heats, clocking a 20.50.
Scoring for the Mustangs in the 500-yard freestyle were sophomore
Carson Klein and junior
Jonathan Gomez. Klein touched in 4:36.73, following a season-best 4:33.91 in prelims, to finish 15th overall and seventh in the heat, while Gomez followed in eighth registering a 4:38.08.
Gomez also has a successful appearance in the mile, securing a fifth-place finish with a time of 15:39.90.
Matthew Colket and Klein also scored for the Mustangs, finishing 13th and 14th, respectively.
In relay action, SMU earned its highest placement in the 200-yard medley relay as
Brandon Norman, Faur, Koo and
Nick Badsky placed eighth in a time of 1:32.54. Badsky and Koo also teamed up with Klein and Colket for ninth in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The Ponies finished 10th in both the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relays. Koo, Badsky, Norman and
Jake Camp combined for a time of 1:23.60 in the free, while Norman, Faur, Gomez and Koo came in at 3:24.39 in the medley. The final relay of the event saw Koo, Badsky, Klein and Norman team up for a 12th place performance in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
