SMU Receives Votes In The AVCA Top 25 Poll, Ranking 31st Nationally

LEXINGTON, Ky. (SMU/AVCA) – The SMU volleyball team is receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll after finishing the regular season with a 25-7 record. The Mustangs won their second straight American Athletic Conference championship with a program-record 18 conference wins and just two losses, winning 13 of their last 14 matches.
SMU ranks 31st, based on the number of votes received, one spot behind Texas A&M. The Mustangs will face the Aggies in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday in Austin, Texas, at 4 p.m. The Mustangs were first mentioned in the poll last week. This is the fourth season in which SMU has received votes in at least one top-25 poll, including each of the last three seasons.
The Mustangs first earned AVCA top-25 votes on Aug. 30, 2010. SMU has been listed among teams receiving votes 14 times overall, 13 times in the last three seasons. The Mustangs were mentioned in eight polls last season, including six straight.
