Consolation Final Results | Preliminary Results
ATLANTA (SMU) - SMU diver Bryce Klein competed on 3 meter at the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship, finishing 17th overall after competing in the Consolation Final. The four-day event is being held at the McAuley Aquatic Center at Georgia Tech, and will conclude on Saturday.
Klein posted a 367.60 in preliminary action to place him in a two-way tie for 16th with Mark Anderson of Texas. With the qualification rule, divers who place ninth through 16th advance to the Consolation Final. However, the two would compete in a "dive off" scenario against one another to vie for the higher place in the Final.
Anderson went on to post a 448.45 for second place, causing Klein, who posted the sixth highest total (368.95), to drop to 17th overall despite his placement.
Klein was named the Most Outstanding Diver of the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship, and was an All-Conference selection on both springboards and platform.
The sophomore will compete at the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials in Indianapolis June 18-26. He has qualified for the event on 3 meter, as well as on 3 meter synchro with partner Bradley Christensen of Stanford and Dwight Dumais out of Austin, Texas. Divers may qualify for the event with multiple partners, but may only compete on up to two teams per event at the Trials.
